ABOUT

Arthur Haswell

Arthur grew up in London where he studied, composed, and played. In 2000 he had the good fortune to meet the renowned British flutemaker William Simmons, who became his mentor. He was official repairer at BFS conventions 2006-12.

Tina Haswell

Tina, originally from Kent, studied Fine Art at Northumbria University. She has an artist’s eye and a craftswoman’s skill which she employs particularly in the making of our headjoints and the delicate processes required in preparation and conservation.

In the course of twenty-five years repairing, we gradually moved away from all but classic Rudall Cartes - the finest of flutes.

Cartes are all different, and the more we work on them the greater our knowlege. It has been rewarding to see and hear Cartes being played widely today by orchestral, chamber, jazz, contemporary, and traditional players.

We have recently developed our own wooden headjoints, made in the British tradition with the needs of today's players in mind.

TESTIMONIALS

I have one of the great Rudall Carte wooden flutes that I played for over 40 years. I plucked up courage and asked Arthur to give it a real overhaul. Wow! What a miracle he has achieved. The Rudall Carte is WONDERFUL. As good as new, and in perfect playing condition. A true joy again in my life.
Atarah Ben-Tovim MBE (formerly Principal Flute Royal Liverpool  Philharmonic Orchestra, lately Chair of the British Flute Society; star of theatre, tv, and radio).

Arthur and Tina's work on my three Rudall Carte wooden flutes, including a rare flute d'amore, was outstanding. They are of the old school: they keep going until the flute is in perfect playing order. I have no hesitation in recommending them.

"I shipped my 100 year old wooden Rudall Carte in a barely working condition and it has just arrived safely back in Canada, playing beautifully. Thank you so much for your amazing work!"
